Kylie Minogue not to replace Dannii on ‘The X Factor’

Posted by bollywoodcinemagallery on April 6, 2010

Girly crush on Aussie star

Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue has laughed off reports she will replace her pregnant sister Dannii on the panel of British reality TV show “The X Factor” because she would be “dreadful” at judging the talent contest.
Dannii Minogue is expecting her first child later this year and has been dogged by rumours that her pregnancy will prevent her from fully participating in the singing show when it returns to TV in summer this year, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
Kylie was said to be in talks with music mogul Simon Cowell to fill in for Dannii during the early auditions rounds, but the “Spinning Around” hitmaker is adamant she won’t be joining the panel.
“Simon hasn’t asked me and probably with good reason. I’ve said that I’d be really dreadful and my sister is just so great at it and better than I could ever be,” she said.
Dannii Minogue too recently took to her Twitter.com page to deny reports she had been cut from “The X Factor”.
“No truth in me being axed at all,” she tweeted.

‘Housefull’ is mad, not mindless: Lara Dutta

Posted by bollywoodcinemagallery on April 6, 2010

She has done drama and action, but Lara Dutta is partial to comedies. And now she is ready with another laugh riot “Housefull” which she says is mad but not mindless.
“It’s not a mindless comedy. It has a tight screenplay. So if you are not following because of all the confusion, you might lose the plot somewhere. It’s a big entertainer with great music with great comic talent. We hope we entertain,” Lara told IANS in an interview.
Directed by Sajid Khan, “Housefull” revolves around Aarush (Akshay Kumar), who believes his bad luck will disappear if he finds true love. In his quest for love, one lie leads to another and different people from various walks of life come together adding moreconfusion and resulting in total chaos.
“It goes by the literary meaning of it. There is one house crowded with people. One person has three wives and children. These wives also have some complications. Time comes when all family members are together andconfusion takes off, and that’s what the film is all about,” said Lara.
After doing “Bhagam Bhaag”, “Partner” and “Do Knot Disturb”, why did she choose another comedy?
“I like doing comedy; so most of the films I do are comedy films. Comedy is something that works. Last year I did ‘Billu’, which was in a different space, ‘Blue’ was an action film and ‘Do Not Disturb’ was acomedy. You know you have to pick and find your balance somewhere,” said Lara.
But now the actress plans to try other genres. She said: “I would like to take a break from comedy and do something else. I have already shortlisted what I want to do, but I haven’t signed any.”
Lara said that she was tired of playing a Punjabi girl and that the role of a modern Gujarati woman in “Housefull” was a welcome change.
“We were tossing things around when we were in the initial stages of the script. We didn’t know whether she is going to be Parsi, Punjabi or Gujarati. I got bored of playing Punjabi characters and so I insisted that my character be not made a Punjabi,” saidLara.
In “Housefull”, Lara’s character works in a casino, meets someone, falls in love and gets married.
“The only aim of her life is that her father, who stays in Ahmedabad, accepts the man she has married. The funny part was they speak to each other through answering machines and in proper Gujarati. It was fun.”
Apart from Lara Dutta, “Housefull” features Boman Irani, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal and Jiah Khan.
The former beauty queen is mostly seen in multi-starrers but is happy that every character she portrayed has been indispensable for the film.
“You know I like doing comedy and most comedy films have many characters and therefore they are multi-starrer films. But at the same time every role that I have taken in thecomedy films, they are very distinct roles. I genuinely feel that if you take away the character from that film then there would be something missing. The characters really added a lot to the films,” saidLara.

You’ll soon see me in a romantic role: Neil Mukesh

Posted by bollywoodcinemagallery on April 3, 2010

Neil Nitin Mukesh has made a mark for himself by choosing strong character-driven roles in “Johnny Gaddar”, “New York” and “Jail”. But now the sensitive actor promises his fans will get to see him in a completely romantic role.
“I like character-oriented and character-driven films a lot. There needs to be a certain meaning to the film that you do and that’s how I choose my roles,”Neil, who was in the capital to launch travel magazine Lonely Planet India, told IANS in an interview.
Asked if he would do romantic roles, Neil replied, “You can see romance in all my films, although it’s true that that romance is a little different from other movies. But soon you will be seeing me in a completeromantic role as I am on the verge of signing one.”
Despite coming from a musical background, Neil ventured into acting. Instead of taking the routine route, he made his debut in a negative role in the crime thriller “Johnny Gaddar”. Though the film didn’t do well at the box office, Neil certainly won critical acclaim for his performance.
Last year, he wowed the audiences as an undercover cop in “New York” that also had Katrina Kaif and John Abraham. In the same year he featured in Madhur Bhandarkar’s critically acclaimed “Jail”.
Neil admits he does feel the pressure to keep up the reputation of his grandfather, legendary singer Mukesh, and his dad, Nitin Mukesh.
“There is no doubt about the fact that I feel pressurised. It is very important as it took them (granddad and dad) decades of hard work and struggle to build that name and reputation. But it is a good pressure that gives me strength to give my best.”
Neil recently did a crash course in taekwondo in Bangkok. He will be seen doing some dare-devil stunts in an action advertisement for an innerwear brand. It was being said that he not only performed but also directed those stunts.
“I won’t say I directed it, but I coordinated it correctly because it’s a double role act with difficult action sequence so you need to get it right in your mind. It was fun and came out really well.”
So, with acting, singing and directing, does Neil plan to follow the footsteps of Farhan Akhtar?
“I don’t know. Let’s see and let’s hope that I get to come a little closer to him. He is a superbly talented human being.”
Meanwhile, Neil is busy with films like Pradeep Sarkar’s “Lafenge Parindey” that also stars Deepika Padukone, Vishal Bharadwaj’s “Saat Khoon Maaf” with Priyanka Chopra and a film with Abbas-Mustan.

‘Prince’ is high-voltage action: Director

Posted by bollywoodcinemagallery on April 3, 2010

Kookie Gulati says high voltage action scenes performed by Vivek Oberoi in his big-budget directorial debut “Prince” are the film’s USP. He is confident the movie will surprise audiences with its implausible action sequences shot with cutting-edge previz technology in South Africa, Thailand and India.
“Previz is the short form of pre-visualisation. It is an animated form of storyboard. I made this previz to show that all those seemingly impossible stunts done by Vivek were actually possible and this is the way one particular scene should be shot,” Gulati told IANS in an interview.
According to reports, producer Kumar Taurani has invested over Rs.40 crore in “Prince”. In the two-hour-six-minute film there is one hour of action.
Kookie used animated storyboard – previz – to make his associates understand how he wanted the action sequence to be shot. The advantage of previsualization is that it allows directors to experiment with different staging and art direction options without having to incur the costs of actual production.
“The first shot that we took was with 350 people, eight cameras across six buildings and Vivek on top of a building. We shot it in a day. If I hadn’t done previz, it would have taken us six days easily because by the time everyone coordinates and understands what actually is happening and what we want to show, it would have been a mess.
“This previz was also required to convince people what I am actually trying to do. I had to do the storyboard first and then animators transformed it to a previz. We used it mostly for theaction sequences,” said Gulati.
Releasing Friday, the film stars Vivek Oberoi in the lead role and Gulati roped in Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh to play female leads.
“There is a big twist in the film with one of these women. All of them claim to be Maya (character name). If I had cast big name in my film, you could have easily guessed who is the original Maya. That’s why I didn’t take big stars in my film,” said Gulati.
Asked what made him choose these three girls, Gulati said: “We wanted each girl to have her own character.
“The story is of six days; so keeping in mind the pace at which the film moves there was not much time to set up each character and provide that length of story behind each of them. So the idea was to pick up good actors who can deliver in the time frame that was given to them on screen,” he said.
The film’s theme was Gulati’s brainchild, but screenplay writer Shiraz Ahmed, who scripted films like “Race” (2008) and “Wanted” (2009), shaped it into the screenplay of “Prince”.
“We were very lucky that writer Shiraz Ahmed took a liking for me and agreed to write the script. It actually became a very huge plus point. We had an idea of thefilm we wanted to make and then obviously he took it on,” said Kookie.
Prince” narrates the story of a thief (Vivek) who wakes up one morning to realise he has lost his memory and that his life is at stake.Kookie had a couple of choices for the male lead, but signing Vivek was producer Kumar Taurani’s idea.
“We needed someone who can carry certain kind of physicality and can act well at the same time. Because the way the script has been written, the storyline is very, very strong and all these actions and stunts come through it. Vivek became the obvious choice because he can actually pull it off. Kumarji took a call,” saidKookie.
Gulati says he always wanted to make a film and was brushing up his skills by making music videos.
“I have been working with Kumar Taurani for the last nine years. I made a few music videos, but from the day I joined, I wanted to make a movie. But obviously it takes time. It’s good that it didn’t happen that time because I got time to discover myself,” said Gulati.
