`Jayotsavam’ to honour K.G. Jayan

Raveendran Music Foundation will organise a function named `Jayotsavam’ in connection with the 75th birthday celebrations of singer K.G. Jayan of JayaVijaya, one of the popular musician twins JayaVijaya and actor Manoj K. Jayan’s father. In the meeting conducted at Sree Gokulam Convention centre, Kaloor in Ernakulam at 6 p.m. on March 20, superstar Mohanlal will honour K.G. Jayan with a `veera srumkhala’. Mammooty will present a citation to felicitate him. Sukumari, Major Ravi, Dr. L. Subrahmanyam, Kavitha Krishnamoorthy, Kaviyur Ponnamma, Dr. G.P.C. Nair, Baby Mathew Somatheeram, Manoj K. Jayan, Jyotsna and many prominent persons will participate. A gurupooja to be performed by 75 eminent persons from different walks of life bestowing ponnada to Jayan at the stage lit with 75 `Nilavilak’. After the function a fusion music will be performed by Chennai Prem, brother of famous drummer Sivamani.

Priyamani was initially scared of working with RGV!

Reigning South Indian beauty Priyamani, who dons the role of Gangula Bhanumati, wife of Maddelachervu Suri (played by Suriya) in director-screenwriter-producer Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming Hindi-Telugu-Tamil trilingual Rakta Charitra, said that she was initially afraid of working in with Ram Gopal Varma.The National Award winning actress was sharing her experience about starring in Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra. “However, my first trip to Mumbai to complete the shooting changed my perception totally. Working with RGV was a wonderful experience and he was easy to deal with on the sets,” Priyamani said. The director took the final decision of casting Priyamani after he was impressed by her performance in Paruthaveeran, for which she won a National Award, it is said.

Starring Vivek Oberoi, Shatrughan Sinha (Hindi), Mohan Babu (Telugu) and Radhika Apte in the lead roles, Rakta Charitra is the story of rebel-turned politician Paritala Ravi (Vivek Oberoi), one of the most-feared individuals in the blood-ridden faction politics of South India. The film, currently in its production stage, will be released in late 2010.

Vineeth Sreenivasan has now turned as a director

Vineeth Sreenivasn son of legendary actor Sreenivasan has now turned as a director with his debut film ‘Malarvadi Sports and Arts club’.After proving himself as a successful singer by delivering many hit songs and as a successful actor by acting in Johnny Antony’s film ‘Cycle’ and in ‘Makante Adhan’. Script has been penned by himself for his directorial debut film. It is said that Vineeth will act with other newcomers in the film. The film is to be produced by Dileep under the banners of Grand Productions. Dileep also makes a role in the film which is said to be the key role of the movie. The movie will tell a social message in hilarious manner. The film is expected to be shot at Ernakulam.

Arun Vijay replaces Suriya in Kandahar?

Arun Vijay, son of reputed character actor Vijay Kumar, will reportedly replace Suriya in Major Ravi’s upcoming Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Kandahar (also starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan). Suriya was chosen to play the role of a commando in the film but had to opt out due to unavailability of dates.

It is also reported that Naadodigal girl Ananya has a role in this film. Amitabh will be seen as the father of a passenger on the ill-fated plane that was hijacked and Mohanlal will play a commando chief.

Produced by Mohanlal’s own Pranavam Arts, the film is inspired by the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in 1999. It was hijacked by five Pakistani militants while on its way from Kathmandu to New Delhi on Christmas Eve and was forced to land in three different airports (Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai) before spending a week on the tarmac in Kandahar with 186 hostages on board. Kandahar will be shot in Delhi, Nepal and Kerala.

‘Film Star’ progressing

`Film Star’, another film, which tells the story within the film industry is progressing at Paathaalam near Aluva. Dileep dons the role of a scriptwriter, Nandagopan and Kalabhavan Mani as superstar, Suryakiran. Rambha and Muktha are the heroines. Sanjeevraj is directing the film. The story tells about Surya Kiran, a Malayali who became star of Kollywood. Nandagopan, a Malayalam screenplay writer wished to make a film casting Suyakiran as hero. He reaches Chennai with the script to meet Suryakiran. But Suryakiran rejected the subject. Disappointed Nandagopan left Surya’s room leaving the script there. This incident made Suryakiran to read the script. He got interested in the subject and searched for Nandagopan. But his search for Nandagopan became vain. Then Surya decided to make the film with his old friend Aravindan’s direction. He titled the film ‘Abhayaarthikal’. Appu Johns USA and Sanjeevraj are producing the film under the banner of Wide Screen Cinema. Other cast includes Valsala Menon, Jagathy, Vijayaraghavan, Suraj, Devan, Thalaivasal Vijay, Sadique, Baburaj and others. Salu George is the cinematographer. Lyrics penned by Suresh Babu and Anil Panachooraan and Benny Johns and Vijayan Punjaar had scored the music.

Jaya Soorya and Lal in Leo Thadevoos next

In his forthcoming project, to be made in the backdrop of fort Kochi, Leo Thadevoos, tells about the story of a father and son. ‘Pacha marathanalil’ was his last work. Lal dons the role of father and Jaya Soorya as son. They are supported by Sai Kumar, Innocent, Suraj and others. Heroine is yet to be finalised. Alphonse has scored the music and lyrics penned by Kaithpram and Anil Panachooraan. M.G. Raman will crank the camera.

Battle between Prithvi and Indrajit

It is battle time between the brothers, Prithviraj and Indrajeet. Their movies have clashed at the box office with lots of expectations. One is the Prithviraj and Mohanlal starrer “Thanthonny”. On the other hand is the Indrajeet starrer “Nayakan”. While “Thanthonny” has been directed by George Varghese, “Nayakan” has been directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery.

Prthwiraj’s `Thanthonni’ and Indrajith’s `Nayakan’ will reach theaters today. Both films were directed by debutants. ‘Thanthonni’ was directed by George Varghese. Lijo Pelliseri son of Jose Pelliseri has directed `Nayakan’. Indrajit, Dhanya Mary Varghese and Thilakan are in lead. Other cast includes Lalu Alex, Jagathy, Kalasala Babu, Kiranraj, Sreejith Ravi, Ambika Mohan, Rekha Pillai and others. Under the banner of Eluminato, Anoop Johnson Karedan has produced the film. P.S.Rafeeq is the script writer. Sachithnandan Puzhangara has penned the lyrics and Prasanth Kulangara has scored the music. Vijay Ulakanath and Manoj Paramahamsa worked on the camera.

Prithwiraj presents a mischievous character of Kochoonju in `Thanthonni’. Sheela [‘Maya Bazar’ fame] is the heroine. Other cast includes Ambika, Bindu Panicker, Jolly Eesaw, Kanya, Kalabhavan Mani, Thilakan, Jagathy, Vijayaraghavan, Suraj, Sai Kumar, Suresh Krishna, Murali Mohan and others. Under the banner of Marikar Films, Shahul Hameed has produced the film. T.A. Shahid has scripted the story. Girish Puthenchery has penned lyrics and Thej Merwin scored music. Sajeth Menon has wielded camera.

Film maker Gautham Menon to cast Dileep?

Though Dileep is finding it hard to be amidst hits, he still has plenty of promising projects that may workout for him in the immediate future. The most promising offer that has came his way, is from popular Tamil film maker Gautham Menon.

A Malayalee by himself, Gautham has been for quite sometime trying to start off in Malayalam. Dileep who sensed his interest in doing one such project, has discussed with Gautham about the chances and the project was finalised.

This movie yet to be titled will be a bilingual, also made in Malayalam. A R Rahman will be the music director of this movie which will kick off in a couple of months.

Meanwhile Gautham’s latest movie ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is now acclaimed as a hit in Tamil Nadu and also in Kerala as well. The movie which was shot in Kerala, is continuing with its success run in select centres in the major metros. The songs by A R Rahman are also big hits among the youth.
